The unfortunate reality is that, we all will be or will know someone who is affected by cancer. This not only impacts a person physically but also a person and their loved ones practically, socially and emotionally. Before I was born, my grandad lost his life to cancer at the age of 49 and therefore the chance of a long life with his family and meeting his grandchildren was taken from him.

My grandad was taken from our family far too soon.

I am passionate about helping others and have chosen a career working in the health care industry specialising in psychological support and mental health and wellbeing. I have seen the effects that the heartache of a diagnosis of cancer or the death of a loved one can cause on mental well-being which has an impact on all aspects of a person’s life. Knowing I can make a small difference to someone’s life by supporting them during highly emotional times gives me a sense of purpose and a drive to make a change.

Amazing charities such as Macmillan provide not only physical care, but also practical, social and emotional support for families. Macmillan offer a wide range of essential expert knowledge and support which is of great comfort to families knowing they have help there when it is needed most. It is extremely vital to raise money for incredible charities such as Macmillan and Cancer Research as they provide care, support and the fundamental research for cures to hopefully one day, beat cancer.
