The Training

"Forewarned, forearmed; to be prepared is half the victory."
Miguel de Cervantes | Novelist

The Variables

Training for such a challenge requires the ultimate in mental and physical fitness. To be able to ascend quickly, Mo must endure months of highly intense speed climbing and ascending. To ascend safely, Mo must undertake a series of rigorous courses teaching him the necessary skills to survive in some of the most inhospitable environments in the world.

Speed Endurance

Speed Endurance

To summit quickly, the ability to maintain a sustained high intensity is crucial. A fusion of speed and endurance, this component requires Mo to be on the physical limit for up to 20 hours at a time. The demand for oxygen, blood flow and recovery rise massively at altitude. This is Speed climbing!

Technical Climbing

Technical Climbing

To improve climbing ability, you must learn to climb more! Body positioning, grip, core, strength and efficiency are what make a useful and component climber. Add in the technical skills required to climb such as setting up anchors, placing protection and slick roping drills – this is a tough element to crack.

Strength & Conditioning

Strength & Conditioning

Downhill running puts an enormous eccentric load on your legs. Spending 50% of his time downhill, strong tendons, ligaments and muscles are necessary to deal with that load. A sold strength and conditioning programme will allow Mo to run harder and longer, but it will also aid in injury prevention!

Performance Nutrition

Performance Nutrition

Without adequate fuel, no matter how strong the engine, it simply cannot perform. At altitude, the body burns significantly more calories than at sea level, even at rest. Sustaining long periods of intensity at altitude, and in harsh conditions, the correct nutrition is crucial for a successful ascent.
